Purchase interest does not equal purchase intent. This won't necessarily translate into sales, but it has captured some consumer attention (enough store front displays with unbought stacks of product).
I don't think the economy has rebounded enough to be too optimistic about Kinect's prospects, but they are going to move millions of them through the holidays and hopefully into next year.
Reports indicate that Microsoft has learned from the Wii and they should a good flow of product through the holidays. They are going to sell a shitload.

It is the Zunes, Kins, Bings and whatnot that are doing poorly.
